New Toy

Drafting TableDrafting Table

Recently, I acquired a pretty cool new toy - a drafting table nearly a metre wide, with an illuminated centre section, parallel motion ruler and perspective peg slots all around the sides. It was actually cheaper than my previous drawing board - one of those awful plastic-sheet-with-metal-clips things - since it was a fortunate eBay find from a seller just up the road from me which nobody else bid on at all. I felt a bit guilty taking the thing in the end, the charming old guy I picked it up from - an ex-illustrator, apparently - insisted on bringing me in to demonstrate how best to use it, and seemed a bit wistful when he explained that he's having to get rid of half the things in his studio as him and his wife were moving into a small bungalow for their retirement...

Tristan and Iseult - new features coming soon...

in programming, videogames, VNs

Tristan and Iseult has been out for a couple of weeks now, lots of people have downloaded it and a fair number of those have given some useful feedback to improve the game - thanks to everyone who's pointed out bits they didn't like and especially those who've suggested ways to get around those problems. One common request was for some change to speed up the battles - some people don't want to wait to watch their little blokes tramping across the countryside, they want to get stuck into the tactical gameplay stabbing and slaughtering part of the game - so I've added a raft of features to help out in that regard. Some of these I'd been thinking about before release and just didn't have time to add, and others I hadn't thought of at all until someone suggested them.

Tristan and Iseult v1.2

in nano, programming, videogames, VNs

So, predictably a bug or two have cropped up in T&I. Rather unpredictably, the big one actually got into the game as a direct consequence of the music-playing code being added to that section at the last minute, so we didn't notice it in testing 'cause we thought that since just the music code had been added, making sure the music played properly would probably be enough testing. Oops!

So, people have probably noticed that Tristan and Iseult hasn't been released yet - basically, it's quite literally 99.5% done, playable from end to end, but a couple of things are holding it back.

So, March - and NaNo - is nearly over, and progress on Tristan and Iseult... well, it progresses. Apace.

Ren - despite starting with only ten days to go thanks to previous commitments, and working through overtime at her job, has now finished all the lineart for the game and only has the colouring to go. She insists that I mention that 'corners have been cut', but I'm pretty impressed with her output all the same! I've finished writing the first three parts of the story, and am beginning to worry that I won't fit it all into the month. I still need to write another four thousand words or so (I'm slow) and finish scripting the remainder of the battles and finish up the last of the graphic elements and attach music to everything and...

Still.
